Till now, majority of the warehousing activities in India was undertaken by the unorganised segment. Rapid growth in the transactions by organised players, especially in the e-commerce and FMCG segments, is changing the landscape of the industry.

  • The ‘Make in India’ campaign and government efforts to set up industrial corridors to promote the manufacturing clusters, has created a new market for warehousing facilities.
  • Today, warehousing accounts for approx. 25% of the logistics cost.
  • Warehousing investment stood at around 26% of the total private equity investments into real estate during January 2014 – January 2018, with $3.4 billion of institutional capital coming into the sector.
  • New facilities and greenfield projects accounted for 67% of total investments, followed by 27% for acquisition of complete projects.
  • Warehousing industry is expected to grow at 10% p.a.
